Does DW-MRI replace or complement MRD for response assessment?

During the 62nd American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition, the Multiple Myeloma Hub spoke to Angelo Belotti, ASST Spedali Civili di Brescia, Brescia, IT. We asked, Does diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) replace or complement measurable residual disease (MRD) for response assessment?

Does DW-MRI replace or complement MRD for response assessment?

Belotti highlights the importance of DW-MRI as a promising tool to better evaluate the prognosis of patients with multiple myeloma. Data from a retrospective study show that the concordance between DW-MRI and MRD results is approximately 50%, suggesting that the two techniques may be complementary and should be performed together in the monitoring of residual disease.
